PPF is primarily made from thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), known for its durability, flexibility, and self-healing properties. Some films also include layers of acrylic adhesive, a top coat for UV resistance, and a release liner to protect the adhesive before application.
Self-healing PPF contains an elastomeric polymer layer that allows the film to recover from minor scratches and swirl marks when exposed to heat, such as sunlight or warm water. This technology enhances the film’s longevity and maintains a smooth, glossy finish.
The quality and durability of PPF depend on factors like the thickness of the film, the type of TPU used, the quality of adhesives, and the presence of UV-resistant coatings. High-quality PPF can last 5–10 years with proper maintenance, providing long-term protection against scratches, chips, and environmental damage.
